Edith Piaf

Getting ready for my Paris/London trip by listening to a little Edith Piaf while I draw some elevations for a client. She's amazing. I think you might be able to design a whole house inspired by her music. It has also been suggested by 2 different friends of mine that I go to the cemetery where Edith and others are buried. Apparently architecturally and visually speaking it's pretty fantastic. I'll have to add it to the list.

Band of Horses

I've been obsessing over this song, "The Great Salt Lake", ever since I went to see Band of Horses at the Greek in LA last month, and probably even before then. Such a good show and an amazing band. I can't really describe exactly what it makes me feel, but this song makes me feel something, and I like it. A lot.

The Shins

I've waited until the very last minute to pay my sales tax, which I'm suppose to be doing right now (or some time before midnight), but instead...

You know that part in Garden State when Natalie Portman tells Zach Braff to listen to "New Slang" by The Shins because, "it'll change your life, I swear". Well...she was right. Here are some other Shins tunes that I find equally good.

"Kissing the Lipless". Introduced to me by a boyfriend many moons ago, it is still my favorite Shins song. Possibly my favorite song ever:

Another of my favorites, "A Comet Appears":

Kind of a fun cover they did of the Postal Service's "We Will Become Silhouettes":

This is a cool little artsy video that they made in Paris found on Vimeo:

She & Him

Last Thursday I went to see She & Him at the Glass House in Pomona and it was such a great show. It was one of those occassions where the band sounds remarkably better live than on their cd. I've always had a little thing for Zooey Deschanel, but after the concert I also fell a little bit in love with her male counterpart, Matt Ward. I bought tickets after recently becoming obsessed with the cotton commercial featuring Zooey. She makes the fabric of our lives look so cool (and vintage). I love the colors and the scenery and I find the whole commercial aesthetically inspiring. It's no wonder every hipster girl wants to be her and every hipster boy wants to date her.
