Suitcase Decorating

I woke up at 5:30 this Saturday morning to 30 text messages from eager Craigslist shoppers inquiring about my "Civic for sale". I do own a Civic, but it isn't for sale, so what was with all of the texts?! One person even used my name in the text message, so it wasn't just a phone number type-o in the ad like I had originally thought. I wanted to figure out if this was a case of stolen identity, or one of my oh-so-clever friends just playing a practical joke. So I went downstairs to grab my laptop and typed in civics for sale in Orange County. I looked at all 10 ads or so, and nothing referenced my number, but there was one ad flagged for removal. I couldn't read the content, but the title was "civic for sale - $2000" (Newport). I'm pretty sure that was the culprit, but I'm a little bummed someone else got to flag it instead of me. And now that the ad is taken down...people are still calling. Give it up people!

That brings me to my next point. Since I was up, and online, I naturally went from Craigslist to design sites, to design blogs, to Etsy sites, to these little numbers...

I've never tried it before, but I always love photos that depict vintage suitcases stacked up as side tables or decoration. It's a pretty clever and aesthetically pleasing way to store things that you don't want left laying around. I'm down.

Clever Cabinetry

I'm starting on a remodel of a kitchen in Newport and as I was perusing through my design magazines for inspiration I came across this clever cabinetry design. It's sometimes a quandary to decide what's more important in a kitchen; cabinetry space, or windows that provide beautiful natural night. In the kitchen shown above (found in May's issue of Traditional Home) you get the best of both worlds. It's functional, classy, and beautiful all at the same time.

Cabinetry designed by architect Greg Johnson.
